Yin Qiao San (Honeysuckle and Forsythia Powder, 銀翹散) is a classical Chinese herbal formula in concentrated powder form, from Yes China Herbs (Ko Da).

It was standardised by Wu Jutong in the Wen Bing Tiao Bian (Systematic Differentiation of Warm Diseases, 1798). The name comes from its two chief herbs: Jin Yin Hua (honeysuckle) and Lian Qiao (forsythia).

This formula releases the exterior with acrid-cool herbs and resolves heat-toxin. It is traditionally used at the onset of an upper respiratory tract infection — sore or scratchy throat, fever, headache, thirst, and dry cough. In Chinese medicine this is Wind-Heat attacking the Lungs at the Wei (defensive) level.

Key Ingredients

  • Jin Yin Hua (Honeysuckle Flower) — chief herb; soothes the throat.
  • Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit) — chief herb; opens the exterior.
  • Niu Bang Zi (Burdock Seed) — reduces throat swelling.
  • Bo He (Mint) — disperses Wind-Heat and clears the head.
  • Jing Jie (Schizonepeta) — assists release of the exterior.
  • Dan Dou Chi (Fermented Soybean) — vents constrained heat.
  • Jie Geng (Platycodon Root) — opens the Lungs and directs the formula upward.
  • Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatherum) — clears residual heat and eases thirst.
  • Lu Gen (Phragmites Rhizome) — generates fluids and cools the Lungs.
  • Gan Cao (Licorice Root) — harmonizes the formula.

Preparation suggestion: Mix 1 teaspoon of powder in hot water and drink warm, 2–3 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner.

Not indicated for Wind-Cold with strong chills, body aches, and no sore throat. Contains fermented soybean. Use with caution in pregnancy, while nursing, or with liver disease.

Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Seal tightly after opening.

Use under the guidance of a practitioner.
