Si Wu Tang from Empirical Health is a classical Chinese herbal formula powder, based on the traditional Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), originating from the Song Dynasty text Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang (~1078–1085 AD).
This foundational formula nourishes and invigorates blood, regulates menstruation, and softens the Liver. In modern Western terms, it supports healthy blood production and circulation, helps maintain balanced hormone-related tissue responses, promotes normal menstrual cycle regularity, and assists with comfort during blood-deficient patterns—making it particularly useful for patterns of blood deficiency with mild stasis, such as pale complexion, dizziness or light-headedness, blurred vision, palpitations, scanty or delayed menstruation, mild cramping, fatigue, dry skin/hair, brittle nails, poor memory or concentration, or slow recovery after blood loss/illness/childbirth, commonly seen in anemia-like states, post-partum support, irregular cycles, or general vitality depletion in TCM terms.
Key Ingredients (classical composition):
- Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) – nourishes blood and replenishes essence.
- Dang Gui (Chinese Angelica Root) – nourishes and invigorates blood.
- Bai Shao (White Peony Root) – nourishes blood and softens the Liver.
- Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) – invigorates blood and moves Qi.
Preparation suggestion: Place 1 tsp (~5 g) of powder into 100 ml of boiling water, let cool, strain and drink warm. Drink twice daily, or as otherwise directed by your healthcare professional.
Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Seal tightly after opening.
