Liu Jun Zi Tang from Empirical Health is a classical Chinese herbal formula powder, based on the traditional Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), originating from the Ming Dynasty text Zheng Zhi Zhun Sheng (~1602 AD) as an enhancement of Si Jun Zi Tang with the addition of Chen Pi and Ban Xia.

This foundational formula tonifies Spleen Qi, strengthens the middle jiao, transforms phlegm-damp, and regulates Qi to harmonize the Stomach. In modern Western terms, it supports healthy digestive function and nutrient absorption, helps maintain normal gut motility and mucus balance, promotes comfort during mild phlegm-damp accumulation, and assists with steady energy without heaviness—making it particularly useful for patterns of Spleen Qi deficiency with phlegm-damp accumulation, such as poor appetite, loose or sticky stools, epigastric fullness or bloating after eating, nausea or mild vomiting, fatigue (worse after meals), heavy limbs, pale complexion, greasy tongue coating (white or slightly yellow), or a soft/slippery pulse, commonly seen in chronic indigestion, functional dyspepsia, post-viral digestive sluggishness, mild gastritis with damp, or general low energy with digestive dampness in TCM terms.

Key Ingredients (classical composition):

  • Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) – strongly tonifies Qi and supports vitality.
  • Bai Zhu (Atractylodes macrocephala) – strengthens the Spleen and dries dampness.
  • Fu Ling (Poria) – drains dampness and harmonizes the middle jiao.
  • Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice) – harmonizes and mildly tonifies.
  • Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel) – regulates Qi and transforms phlegm-damp.
  • Ban Xia (Prepared Pinellia Rhizome) – transforms phlegm, descends rebellious Qi, and alleviates nausea.

Preparation suggestion: Place 1 tsp (~5 g) of powder into 100 ml of boiling water, let cool, strain and drink warm. Drink twice daily, or as otherwise directed by your healthcare professional.

Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Seal tightly after opening.

This product contains no preservatives or artificial additives. Use under the guidance of your practitioner—this provides classical, effective support for Spleen Qi deficiency with phlegm-damp patterns involving poor appetite, bloating, loose stools, nausea, fatigue, and digestive heaviness in a professional setting.
